Arminda Moreno Díaz
Associate professor

Mrs. Arminda Moreno-Díaz holds a BSc Degree in Mathematics (specialised in Statistics, Universidad Complutense de Madrid) and a PhD in Informatics (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM). She is Associate Professor at the Artificial Intelligence Department at Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Informáticos, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and a member of the UPM Research Group in Decision Analysis and Statistics.
As a research team member, she has been involved in several national and international projects related to different aspects of decision analysis. These projects have been funded by different government agencies, Madrid autonomous region and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

She has proven experience in statistical regression models for ordinal variables, intelligent data analysis, knowledge extraction, inference and prediction. She has co-authored several articles published in scientific magazines and other scientific forums.

Two different lines of research can be described. The first one devoted to applied statistical models for ordinal variables and statistical modelling and data analysis in general. The second one devoted to mathematical models to represent visual processes in vertebrates, in particular, retinal processes

Her teaching abilities have been developed and improved for over twenty years on several aspects of Statistics and data analysis, not only cross-sectional data but time series data, fields that are attracting renewed interest in the era of Data Science. Topics thought and mastered include introductory and advanced statistics and inference, data exploration and visualization, model-based and data-driven methods for description, prediction and forecasting as well as presenting and communicating effectively the information produced by those processes.

She is member of the scientific and organising committee for the EUROCAST series of conferences and workshops (International Conference on Computer Aided Systems Theory). Previous editions include those for years 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019. She has also been member of the scientific committee for IWINAC conferences on its 2007 and 2009 editions.

She was part of the team awarded frist prize in “VIII Premio de Investigación Operativa “General Fernández-Chicarro” given by the Spanish Ministry of Defense, in its 2003 edition. The work was entitled “Submarine sonar tracking and detection”. Resolution 422/38245/2003 of November the 3rd. (published in the Official Spanish Gazette, B.O.E. of 8 November 2003, num. 268, page 39674).
